Rockport 11 – Waldoboro 5
Rockport rallied for five runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Waldoboro in Midcoast Babe Ruth playoff action Monday in Rockport. Cam Gushee collected the win (6H,6B,5K). Owen Gilbert took the loss (4 2/3I, 9R,7B,6K,4H), and Brent Stewart closed out the game (3K,1B,1HP,2H). Waldoboro had six errors in the loss.
Waldoboro, after leaving the bases loaded with no outs in the first, took a 1-0 lead in the second when Adam Eutsler doubled, moved to third on a bunt single to Brent Stewart, and scored on a sacrifice bunt from Nick Hill.
Rockport scored three in the home half of the second, on a double to Dick Denny, RBI triple to Cameron Gushee, and RBI errors to Spencer Johndro and Ionut Lodge. Rockport added a run in the fourth to lead 4-1. Johndro walked, moved to third on a Lodge single and scored on a throwing error.
Waldoboro rallied in the top of the fifth for three runs to tie the game. Wyatt Post and Ollie Brown drew two-out walks and scored on a Gilbert double. Gilbert came home on a Channing Soper single.
Rockport took advantage of two errors and three walks to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Johndro walked in a run, Isaac Hall hit a run in with an error, and Lodge hit a three-run double. Rockport added two runs in the sixth on RBI singles to Denny and Johndro.
Brown hit a solo home run to right field in the seventh to bring Waldoboro’s tally to five.
Hitting for Waldoboro were Brown a home run, Gilbert and A. Eutsler a double each, and Soper, Stewart, and Isaac Eutsler a single each. Hitting for Rockport were Lodge and Denny a double and single each, Gushee a triple, and Johndro a single.
