Seven local wrestlers placed at the state championship meets on Saturday.
Medomak Valley’s Steven Thompson took second at 132 pounds in the State Class B meet in Fryeburg. Six wrestlers, three each from Boothbay and Wiscasset placed at the State Class C meet held in Bucksport.
Two time defending champion Anthony Maulolo placed second for Boothbay in the 220 pound weight class. Boothbay’s Howie Carter placed second at 160 pounds, and Draco Peaslee third at 145 pounds.
Wiscasset had three wrestlers place fourth, including Alex Strozier at 170 pounds, Conlan Ranta at 182 pounds, and Andrew Hendrickson at 195 pounds.
State B results
Ellsworth won the State Class B team championship with 147.5 points, beating out Camden Hills 105, Foxcroft 96.5, Mt.Valley 95, Belfast 83, Winslow 75, Fryeburg 55, Gardiner 54, Oxford Hill 53.5, York 45.5, Wells 35, Morse 25, Medomak 18, Mt.View 7, MDI 4, MCI 4, Oceanside 3, and Caribou 3.
Steven Thompson (MV 132) beat Isaac Desrochers (We) by 9-1 decision then pinned Brandon Gill (Mt.Va) by 6-5 decision to advance to the championship round. Thompson was pinned by Peyton Cole (El) in 2:17 to take second place.
Deagan Poland (MV 126) was pinned by Eddie DeRouche (Mt.Va) in 53 seconds, and by Isaac Taylor (EA) in 1:07.
Riley McCollett (MV 145) lost a 7-2 decision to Mike Provencher (Mt.Va), pinned Isaac Whittmore (FA) in 3:02, and was eliminated by Taylor Crosby (CH) by fall in 4:33.
Owen Gilbert (MV 285) was pinned by Coyote Freeman (Mt.Va) in 5:10 and lost to Matt Healey (We) by default.
State C results
Dirigo won the State Class C team championship with 211.5 points, beating out Dexter 155, Bucksport 72, Penobscot Valley 61, Lisbon 59.5, Monmouth 53, Madison 46, Boothbay 38, Washington Academy 28, Calais 20, Woodland 14, Wiscasset 10, Central 5, Mattanawcook Academy 2, and Piscataquis 0.
Bracket sheets from the tournament were not made available by press time, despite requests for them from Wiscasset and Boothbay coaches and MPA meet directors.
