This afternoon in Newcastle, the Lincoln Academy Eagles defeated Oak Hill, 9-0 in West B quarter final action. Ben McLain pitched three innings for the win. Gavin Joannides pitched three innings in relief. Dalton Leeman closed out with an inning on the mound.
Also in baseball, the Medomak Valley Panthers were wiped out by Waterville in Waterville, losing by mercy rule, 17-0 after five innings in East B quarter final action.
In West Class C quarter finals, Dirigo topped Wiscasset 11-1. No details were available as of this posting.
In East B softball quarter finals, the Medomak Valley Lady Panthers defeated number one ranked Mattanawcook 4-3 in eleven innings. Starting pitcher Kayla Vannah scored the winning run, reaching on a bunt single in the top of the eleventh. Vannah advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a Tessa Dodge single. Dodge also hit her third homerun in two days in the win.
Vannah pitched six innings to start. Kayla Santheson came on in relief and pitched five innings for the win.
