Riverhawk Wrestlers Continue to SoarThe Medomak Middle School wrestling team picked up six more wins in two meets last week to improve their record to 18-1. They compete in the Regionals on March 24 in Camden.

The Riverhawks beat Bucksport 62-24, Belfast 60-31, Brewer 60-30, Camden 66-21, Mt.Ararat 60-30, and Oxford Hills 51-34. Medomak Valley Winter Sports AwardsMedomak Valley High School held their winter sports awards on March 8 in the Ronald Dolloff Auditorium. Athletic director Matt Lash recognized many volunteers who helped out the athletic program this winter, including three volunteer coaches Heather Simmons, Jed Harris and Peter Stuart.

Lash recognized the 2012 West B cheering champions; the 2012 boys’ KVAC champions, coach Nick DePatsy for being KVAC Class B Coach of the Year; Alanna Vose for scoring her 1000th point and for being KVAC Class B girls’ Player of the Year; Taylor Pelkey for being KVAC Cheering Athlete of the Year; and Stefan Nicholls for breaking three school wrestling records.

Lash announced that MVHS received a $1900 check from First Hoop.

Lash recognized swimming, track and ice hockey athletes. Wiscasset girls, Topsham Boys Win Wiscasset Rec TournamentThe Wiscasset girls and Topsham boys won the Wiscasset Park and Recreation grades 3-4 basketball tournament last weekend. Wiscasset edged Topsham by a basket in the girls’ division, and Topsham dominated the boys’ division. Results by division can be found in the print, or e-edition of The Lincoln County News. Medomak Midcoast Madness 7th-8th Basketball TournamentThe Medomak Valley All Sports Boosters is hosting the fourth annual Medomak Midcoast Madness 7th-8th Grades Basketball tournament on Fri., March 23 and Sat., March 24 at Medomak Valley High School and Medomak Middle School.

Admission on Friday is $2 for adults, $1 for students. Admission on Saturday is $3 for adults and $2 for students. Tournament format is round robin with the best two teams facing each other for the championship. Concessions will be available.

For the entire schedule, see the print or e-edition of The Lincoln County News. Medomak Undergrads Wrap Up Season 6-3The Medomak Undergrad boys’ basketball team wrapped up their season Monday night with a 6-3 record. Medomak finished second in the Augusta YMCA Undergrad tournament.

They opened their season with a win over Morse. At the Great Harbor Shootout in Bar Harbor, they lost to Hamden, beat Erskine and lost to Hermon.

At the Augusta Y last weekend they beat Mt.Valley, Leavitt, Dirigo, and Cony to advance to the championship game with MDI. The Panthers lost to MDI by four for second place. Leach Wins New England Wrestling ChampionshipMedomak Middle School Wrestler Rayanne Leach won the USGWA Girls’ New England Championships for level M6 in New Hampshire on March 10. Leach competed against girls in grades 6-8. She pinned Ricchiazzi in the second period in her first match of the round robin tournament. She lost to Nadia L’Bahy 5-0 in her second match, then pinned Emily LaVasser in her third match to earn enough points to win the New England title.

Emily Leach competed at elementary level one in the tournament.
