Midcoast South 14 Babe Ruth All-stars lost back to back games to Midcoast North on Saturday in Wiscasset to be eliminated from the District 2 series. Midcoast North moves on to the state tournament.
Chandler Crans and North’s defense shut South down for the remainder of the game. AJ Oliver took the loss for the South.
Hitting for the North were Crans and Caleb McFarland with a double and two singles each, and Dan Hendricks, Jake Davee, Sam Berry, and Matt Vitagliano a single each.
South took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning when Ryan Ripley singled and scored on an error. North took the lead for good with two runs in the home half of the inning. Joe Chamberlain walked and scored on a passed ball and Vitagliano reached on an error and came home on an error.
North broke the game open with six runs in the 3rd. Caleb McFarland and Jake Davee walked and scored when Benner reached on an error. Chamberlain drove in Benner on a bunt for a fielder’s choice and scored on a single to Vitagliano. JT Tobin walked and scored on Dan Hendricks RBI single.
North put the game away early with three runs in the bottom of 5th. Vitagliano hit a two run double scoring Sam Berry and Chamberlain, and scored on a passed ball.
Hitting for South were Ryan Ripley with two singles, Chandler Longfellow a double, and Ben Oakes Ewonton and Travis Creamer a single each. Hitting for North were Vitagliano a double and single (3RBI), and Hendricks and Berry a single each.
