Undefeated Union Little League beat the Tigers of Waldoboro 8-2 Monday night to win the Medomak Valley Little League championship. Michael Simmons went the distance in the win, throwing just 69 pitches. Simmons struck out seven, walked none and gave up just six hits.
“It was his best game of the season,” coach Michael Thompson said.
Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on an RBI single to Darius Pierpont and two run error to David Collins.
Waldoboro Tigers scored a run in the third and one in the fourth on errors to close the gap to one. Union answered the threat with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth on a big hit from Nathan MacDonald.
Max Moody and Ethan Reed shared pitching duties for the Tigers.
Hitting for Union were Simmons with a double and single, Zach Winpenny two singles, and Kyle Wynans, Sean Sebrey, Addison Mellor, Pierpont, David Collins, and MacDonald a single each. Hitting for the Tigers were Jordan Powell, and Ethan Reed, two singles each, and Kallon Mortenson and Max Moody, one each.
