The Lincoln County Eagles got off to a slow start, before scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat Blue Eagles 27-12 in football action at GSB School on Saturday.
Lincoln took an 8-0 early lead on a Chris Tilas touchdown and two-point conversion from Travis Creamer.
A delay of game, fumble, a roughing the passer penalty and back-to-back pass interference calls put the Blue Eagles on the goal line and in prime position to score. Lincoln defense held on the two-point conversion attempt.
Lincoln led 8-6 at the quarter. Tilas scored his second of three touchdowns to give Lincoln a 14-12 lead at the half.
“I made some adjustments at halftime,” coach Gary Gravel commented. “The defense really won it for us. They kept us in the game. They had a big fumble recovery late in the game.”
Neither team scored in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th, Stefan Nicholls scored on an 85-yard touchdown, and Tilas intercepted the ball and ran it back 65 yards to seal the win.
James Grover led Lincoln in tackles. Creamer ran for a two-point conversion and kicked an extra point. Grover and Creamer were named co-Newcastle Publick House Players of the Game.
Tilas had 150 yards rushing, Nicholls had 140 total yards, and Creamer rushed for 97 yards.
