The Waldoboro Recreation Department’s 5th and 6th grade boys’ soccer team capped a perfect 10-0 Midcoast Soccer League season with a 3-0 championship win over Thomaston on Sunday. Scoring for Waldoboro were Simon Fischer, Wyatt Post and Owen Jameson. Waldoboro defeated Warren in the semi-finals.
“This is the first championship for any Waldoboro Rec soccer team since we absorbed the Medomak River Youth Soccer program in 2006,” director Kyle Santheson said. “The boys really played well together this season. I was particularly impressed with their overall teamwork.”
The Waldoboro 5th & 6th grade girls’ team placed second in the tournament, after posting a 7-2 record during the regular season. “This is significant, as the Waldoboro girls had won only one game in the previous three years,” Santheson said.
Waldoboro lost to Rockland in the semifinals 2-1. Gabby DePatsy scored the goal for Waldoboro. “The girls did a fantastic job this season. They should all be proud, they left everything on the field. I am very proud of them,” Santheson said.
Playing for the girls were Olivia Jenkens, Mackenzie Bickmore, Cassie Smeltzer, Gabriyah Gadsby, Madleyn White, Gabby DePatsy, Jane Vannoy, Caroline Goeden, Josie Jameson, Addie Jameson, Acadia Calderwood, Cheyanne Duquette, Alyssa Blackler, Kathleen Winchenbach, Morgan Smith and Logan Delano. Jamie Jenkins and Nick DePatsy coached the girls’ team.
