The Waldoboro Recreation Dept. is accepting registrations for the 2011 Waldoboro Youth Cheering Program. The program will be divided into two divisions: Competition (grades 4-6 only) and Sideline (grades K-6)
Sideline Cheering is scheduled to begin the third week of November at Miller School and continue through the end of January (details are still being finalized). Coaches are needed.
Participants in this beginner program learn basic cheering fundamentals and perform at pee-wee basketball games. Program t-shirts will be provided. Participants are asked to wear white sneakers and solid blue shorts.
The Competition Cheering division is for those in grades 4-6 only, and is an advanced program continuing into March. Travel and a strong commitment to practice is required. Participants learn choreographed dance routines, stunts, cheers and perform at Maine Youth Cheering events.
Due to competition rules, the squad size is limited. A last chance signup and information session is Sat., Nov. 19, 2-4 p.m. in the Miller School gym.
The first practice (and evaluation if necessary) is Wed., Nov. 23, 4:30-6 p.m. at Miller School. All cheerleaders in grades 4-6 are invited to participate and should plan on attending. If not selected to the competition squad an opportunity to participate in the Sideline program will be offered.
Registration deadline for all divisions is Sat., Nov. 19. Basic registration cost for all cheerleaders is $20. An additional $10 for those selected to the competition squad is required in addition to the cost of any needed non-returnable uniform items (costing approximately $26). A $5 non-resident fee applies.
For safety, jewelry is prohibited at practices or events and includes new piercings. Participants should register at the Waldoboro Recreation Dept. as soon as possible. For more information, or if interested in coaching in the Sideline Program contact the recreation department at 832-5369.
