A small but enthusiastic group of runners gathered Saturday morning to compete in the Washington 5K Challenge Road Race, where $200 was raised to benefit the Washington Community Scholarship Fund.
Adam Rhoda, 24, from Washington, led the field, clocking 19:30 minutes over the hilly course. This was after a pre-race warm-up of 3-1/2 miles to the start of the race from Rhoda’s home.
Kathryn Villano, 44, from Jefferson, was the first female to cross the line, completing the race in 26:59. She stated that she’d never received so much attention at the finish of a race, as the small but loud group of spectators cheered her in.
Trophies were also awarded to the following age-group winners: Age 15 and under: Patrick Madden, Washington; Age 20-29: Matthew Stone, Oakland; Age 30-39: Lori Tyler, China; Age 40-49: Dave Villano, Jefferson, and Laura Gosselin, China; Age 50-59: Donald Mansius, Appleton, and Donnajean Pohlman, Albion; Age 60-64: Paul Baillargeon, Warren; Age 65+: Ron Paquette, Albion, and Helen Amazeen, Sidney.
