The Ramblers jumped out to a 14-7 first quarter lead, before Wiscasset scored the first six points of the second frame to pull within one. Brianna Goud tied the game with 3:38 to go in the half and gave Wiscasset their first lead of the game moments later on a pass from Becca Slack. Wiscasset led 21-19 at the half.
Winthrop retook the lead in the third, before Wiscasset went on another six point run, on baskets from Kayla Connors, Alli Johnson and Maryellen True to take the lead for good. Wiscasset led by five at the end of three, 31-26.
Winthrop scored five straight to pull within one with 2:30 to play in the final period. Connors went inside on a Slack feed and Slack sank two at the foul line to boost the lead to five with 34 seconds to play. Nikki Scott scored four points in three seconds to pull Winthrop within one with 24 seconds left. Slack boosted WHS lead to three. Johnson came up with two steals in the final few seconds to seal the win.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Slack 10 (2R,3S,3A), Connors 9 (17R), Goud 8 (11R), Johnson 6 (4S) and True 5 (11R). Scoring for Winthrop were Nikki Scott 14 (3S), Sasha Flaherty 9 (3R,3S), Sarah Warner 9 (5R), Jessica Scott 3 (3S), and Kelsey Nason 1 (11R).
Jessica Campbell scored seven of her 11 points in the pivotal final period, including sinking five of seven at the foul line. A Campbell three-point play at the line with 4:09 to play put the Greyhounds up for good.
Bri Goud pulled Wiscasset within one with 50 seconds remaining when she sank a pair at the line. WHS turned the ball over on a crucial inbound play with 18 seconds to go, and Wiscasset was forced to foul to stop the clock. Haley Eck made one of two shots to boost Lisbon’s lead to two. Wiscasset’s final shot bounced off the rim.
