Wiscasset girls’ basketball team wrapped up their Mt.Valley Conference season on Feb. 3, with a 43-36 win over Boothbay. The Redskins finish the season with a 3-15 record, and the Seahawks with a 2-16 record.
Both teams collected 40 rebounds each. Boothbay forced 30 turnovers, and Wiscasset 19. Wiscasset played the game without their top scorer, and their leading rebounder Maryellen True fouled out early in the fourth quarter. The difference in the game was in shooting percentage, with the Seahawks struggling miserably throughout the contest.
The two rivals battled every step of the way in 1st half action, and were tied 9-9 at the end of the 1st quarter and 17-17 at the half. Boothbay went up by three in the 3rd, before Ali Preble and Abby Austin scored back to back hoops to give Wiscasset a one point edge. Clarke crashed the glass for the Seahawks. Heather McRae went inside on a Maryellen True pass to put Wiscasset up for good with 4:40 to go in the 3rd. Wiscasset led 27-22 at the end of three.
True opened the 4th frame with back to back baskets to boost Wiscasset’s lead to 9. There were 20 foul shots taken in the final six minutes of play, with Wiscasset making 7 of 12, and Boothbay making 1 of 8.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Preble 13 (9R,4S,4A), Austin 8 (2S,2A), McRae 6 (9R,4A), Becca Slack 6 (3R,1S), True 5 (7R,1B,3A), Carolyn Footer 3 (3R) and Elegance Hartwick 2 (4R,1B). Scoring for Boothbay were Lindsey Marden 6 (4S), Alexandra Andrews 5 (7R,4S), S. Caron 5, Kristen Sibley 4 (6R,5S), Annie Wilcox 4 (3S), Clarke 4 (6R,2S), Meryl Jones 3 (4R), Meghan Smith 3 (4R,2S), and Mclellan 2.
