Wiscasset High School girls’ basketball team returns their leading scorer from last year, Kayla Connors. Connors averaged 11 points and 11 rebounds her junior season.
“She was a beast in the Alumni game,” returning coach Patrick Quinn said of Connors’ 20 point, 15 rebound performance.
The Wolverines lost the bulk of their ball handlers, but Quinn said his young team works better as a team than a year ago. Kasey Cromwell, Brianna Goud and Caroline Footer will all be seeing time at point guard. “Bri (Goud) is extremely versatile. She will be playing three different positions,” Quinn said.
Wiscasset hopes to secure a playoff berth this season, something a Wiscasset girls’ team has been unable to do since 2003. “We probably are not as talented, but everyone has a way to contribute. The girls are enthusiastic, and their attendance and attitude are good,” Quinn said.
Wiscasset fields a very young team with just two seniors Connors and Footer, one junior Heidi Pinkham, four sophomores Goud, Cromwell, Sam Sutter, and Maddie Wehrle, and four freshmen Kayla Gordon, Alicia Faulkingham, Miranda McIntire and Hanna Foye.
Wiscasset hosted a five team tournament Dec. 3. The Wolverines lost to St. Doms by seven and to NYA by five in two competitive games.
Wiscasset opens their season on Fri., Dec. 9 at home against Mt.Valley. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
