Wiscasset’s golf team opened their 2009 season with a 7-0 loss to Winthrop on Aug. 28 at Sheepscot Links.
Senior Jordan Jones (45) lost 1-up to Andy Emery (42). Senior Justin Caron (54) lost 1-up to Easter Morang (56). Senior Alex Smelcher (55) lost to Tyler Foster (46) 4 and 3. Sophomore Alex Cromwell (58) lost 2 and 1 to Glenn Tirchario (48).
Wiscasset forfeited the fifth slot due to a lack of eligible players, because they had not practiced enough days. Senior Jesse Hinman and sophomore Wyatt Reed will be eligible to play at the Redskins’ next match.
Team totals were Winthrop 191 and Wiscasset 212. Each match is worth one point each, and two points are awarded the team with the lowest score (best four man total).
