Wiscasset boys’ soccer team picked up their first win of the season in make-up action on Sept. 8.
An aggressive Wolverine offense booted home five goals in a shutout win over Winthrop. Devin Grover led the charge with two goals and an assist. Caleb Bryant added a goal and assist, and James Andretta, Mason Whitaker and Cory Hodgdon a goal each.
Jason Weatherbee had a quiet night in goal, with only two saves, thanks to a strong Wiscasset defensive push.
Goalkeeper Jason Weatherbee earned his keep in the Wiscasset net with three fantastic saves on breakaways, including two at the end of the 1st half, and a third on a diving tip at the feet of a breakaway Rebel.
Caleb Bryant scored both goals for the Wolverines; the first on a pass from Mason Whitaker 13 minutes into the game. Bryant’s second goal came 10 minutes into the 2nd half when he banged a series of shots off Telstar defenders before finding net for a 2-0 lead.
Hall-Dale tied the score with 12 minutes to go in the half on a goal from Sam Shepard, set up by Colin Lush. Lush scored the game winner in the second period with eight minutes to play.
“Wiscasset received nice play from their defense, Devin Grover, Eddie Stewart, Zach Ellison and Camden Reiss, all playing outstanding,” coach Wayne Benn said. Jason Weatherbee recorded 12 saves in net for the Wolverines, and Zachary McNaughton five for the Bulldogs.
