Wiscasset High School boys’ basketball team won an overtime thriller 58-56 over St. Dom’s Monday night on the road. The Wolverines led 12-9 at the quarter, were tied 25-25 at the half, and trailed 32-29 at the end of three.
The Saints went on an 11-0 run over the 3rd and 4th quarters to take the lead. Wiscasset rallied for nine straight to recapture the lead in the 4th. Jones hit two big three-pointers in the run.
St. Dom’s tied the game 48-48 on a jump shot just inside the arch at the buzzer on a shot from Joe Bryant to force overtime.
Wiscasset won the game at the foul line in overtime. Jones sank 4 of 4, Austin Haskell 3 of 4, and Travis Padilla 1 of 2. For the game, Wiscasset went 18 for 24 at the line.
“James Andretta gave us a huge boost on defense and with some things he did on offense,” coach Dana Lawrence said. Caleb Bryant and Padilla did a “good job” defending their big man Tom Applegate, Lawrence said.
Scoring for Wiscasset were Jones 16 (4A,3S), Padilla 15 (5A,8R), Haskell 11 (8R), Jason Weatherbee 5 (11R), Bryant 4 (11R), Andretta 5, and Cory Hodgdon 3. Scoring for St. Dom’s were Bryant 20, Applegate 18, Andrew Gosselin 8, Ian McCracken 5, Nick Hatfield 3 and Zach Johnson 2.
Wiscasset played most of the game without leading rebounder Caleb Bryant who was in foul trouble early.
Wiscasset trailed by six late in the 1st quarter. Jordan Jones scored on a Devin Grover feed, and Grover was fouled at the buzzer and went to the line and made two of three shots to pull the Wolverines within two, 16-14 at the end of one.
Jason Weatherbee scored the opening basket of the 2nd frame to knot the score, and scored one at the foul line midway through the period to give Wiscasset their first lead of the ball game. Steven Lawrence and Kane boosted the Bulldogs lead to eight. Grover hit a big 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to five by the half, 34-29.
Wiscasset out rebounded Madison 15-2 in the third period, and out scored them 23-11 to take a 52-45 lead into the final period. The Wolverines opened the quarter with eight straight points, led by Jones with seven. Kane scored for the Dogs, before Wiscasset rattled off 10 straight to take an 11 point lead. Madison cut the lead to seven by the end of three.
The Bulldogs ferociously defended their home turf in the 4th, out rebounding Wiscasset 17-2. They scored the first seven points of the quarter to knot the score with 6:30 to play. Grover recaptured the lead for Wiscasset, but Madison rattled off eight straight to take the lead for good.
Wiscasset cut the lead to three with under a minute to play on a pair of 3’s from Jones and a hoop from James Andretta. MJ Flanders scored for Madison and Kane settled two from the line to boost Madison’s win to seven points.

Scoring for Madison were Kane 27 (5R,2B,2S), Flanders 11, Lawrence 9 (12R), Seth Sweet 8, Dylan Price 8, Derek Conners 6, Matthew Soucy 3, and Kaleb Staples 2.
