Woolwich upset top seed and undefeated Wiscasset Middle School 2-1 in the Busline Southern Division championships in Wiscasset on Wed., Oct. 17. Wiscasset, who was not at full strength in the game, had beaten Woolwich twice during the regular season, 6-2 and 5-1.
Brandon Goud scored on a pass from Tyler Martin with about a minute to go in the first half to give Wiscasset the lead. WMS took that momentum into the second half, but were unable to score despite solid pressure on Woolwich’s net.
Zander Bartone knotted the score for Woolwich, and switched the momentum to the visitors. Tucker Banger scored the game winner in the closing minutes of the game to lift Woolwich to a 2-1 win.
Woolwich advanced to the Busline League championship game on Oct.20 at Lookout Point in Northport.
