I usually mow around this sign.
For those of you that “got out of Dodge” before winter set in, I am sure that you have heard about our below-zero temperatures and the flooding at the town landing during the Jan. 5 blizzard. The pictures of the docks are truly amazing. I have lived here pretty much my whole life and have never seen the tide this high before. As the old saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” There was some damage done to the dinghy dock, which Jamie Brinkler, of Round Pond Marine, is going to take care of. The sign that I mow around in the summer was all but covered as well.
Just a reminder: spring is in approximately 70 days.
Along that same vein, the storm: many thanks to Paul Leeman for keeping our roads in this amazing community as clear as possible. Paul has a lot on his plate, with also being fire chief and plowing many driveways of residents here but he puts in very long, long, lonely hours out in the weather keeping our roadways safe. Thanks, Paul.
I having been going through some of the old Brown Church journals in hopes of finding something interesting to write about concerning our village. I found a beautiful note written with an old-fashioned fountain pen in the calligraphy style. It states that on June 12, 1924, Mrs. Bethiah Thompson gifted the church $150 for the painting of the sanctuary. I am sure that $150 was a tremendous amount of money back in 1924, but I sure do wish that that was all it cost to have the sanctuary painted this fall!
I also found a note written by Lewis Doering on Aug. 30, 1963 to Mrs. Bethiah Thompson thanking her for gifting the family bible to the church. On this date, Mrs. Thompson was 106 years old. The bible was printed in 1881, when Mrs. Thompson was a mere 24 years old. She was a member of the church for over 70 years.
This week at the Friday night dinner at King Ro, we will be serving a winter kielbasa stew and Chicken Alfredo served over pasta, along with Italian bread. Steph’s desserts this week will be chocolate torte or a berry crisp.
Quote of the week: “Even duct tape can’t fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.”
