Emily W. Johnson, 93, of Damariscotta, passed away after a period of declining health on the afternoon of Oct. 8 at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor.

Join Rising Tide Community Market in shifting the tide. Rising Tide is excited to continue its new reusable container incentive program. When one brings in one’s own containers and bags for produce and bulk items one will receive 25 cents back per “package.” It’s simple. Bring a container from home (or purchase it at the co-op and reuse it), weigh it for a “tare,” and then fill it with bulk/produce products. Since Rising Tide started this program in September, more than 1,000 reused containers have been used for more than $350 in discounts.

‘Day in the Woods’ at Hidden Valley Nature Center

Registration is still open for the “A Day in the Woods” forestry event at Hidden Valley Nature Center on Saturday, Oct. 14. Live music, hands-on learning opportunities, an all-day kids activity tent, and guided walks are just some of the options during this full day of forestry-related learning and fun. Registration is only $5 per person or $15 per family.

Commentary: Training Vitally Important to Prevent Tragedies

The impact of the recent tragedy in Las Vegas has clearly reached our community, including members of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The men and women of the sheriff’s office prepare and train for these events several times each year in hopes the skills obtained in these trainings will never be used.
