Shirley Estella Haley, 94, wife of the late Earle Haley, passed away on the evening of Sept. 25 at the LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in Damariscotta. Born on Dec. 27, 1922 in South Bristol, she was the daughter of Charles and Lettie Gamage.
Red’s Eats Celebrates 40 Years of Gagnon Ownership
Red’s Eats, the iconic seafood shack in Wiscasset, has been owned and operated by the Gagnon family for 40 years. Wikipedia describes Red’s Eats as “one of the most well-known and most written about restaurants in the state” of Maine. Travel + Leisure Magazine listed Red’s Eats as one of the Top 10 Seafood Shacks in Maine.
WW&F Fall Festival is Sept. 30
The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum in Alna will hold its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30. This year’s festivities will include family favorites such as a pumpkin patch, children’s games, and hayrides on the museum’s antique Ford Model AA truck, along with new attractions that promise to entertain.
Newcastle Publick House to Prepare Annual Haiti Dinner
The Lincoln County Ecumenical Committee for Haiti has announced that its annual Haiti benefit dinner will be prepared this year by the Newcastle Publick House staff and kitchen under the supervision of chef-owner Alex Nevens. The annual dinner will take place on Friday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 380 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle. Nevens plans an authentic Haitian menu.

George T. Farris, 76, of Nobleboro, passed away on the afternoon of Sept. 24, in the very room in which he was born, after a brave but quiet battle with cancer. Born on Jan. 21, 1941, he was the son of Charles and Caroline (Hagar) Farris.

Shore-To-Table Events in Boothbay Region
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens have teamed up for a two-day celebration and exploration of Maine’s native superfood — sea vegetables. The series will feature two events: a free panel discussion on local sea greens and a paid course on wild foraging. A free panel discussion, “Maine Sea Vegetables: Past, Present, and Future,” will be held at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens on Friday, Oct. 13 from 5-6 p.m.
Pie by the Slice Over Pumpkinfest Weekend
Pie by the slice will be on sale over Damariscotta Pumpkinfest weekend, Oct. 8-10, thanks to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Glidden Street, next to the river in Newcastle. The church will use its Main Street parking lot for its “Heavenly Pies” stand, selling pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies baked by skilled parishioners, along with cider and coffee.
Round Down Event Supports New Hope for Women
Damariscotta retail women’s clothing store Women of Substance has been rounding down sales to support a local community organization. During the Round Down event, customers who pay 100 percent of their purchase in cash will be forgiven the change portion of their final tally, which will then be donated by Women of Substance to New Hope for Women.
USPS to Offer Souvenir Pumpkinfest Postmark
On Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to noon, the United States Postal Service in Damariscotta will join in celebrating the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta by offering souvenir postmarks at the Damariscotta post office, 173 Main St., Damariscotta.
