Knickerbocker Group is pleased to announce the transition of the company to an employee stock ownership plan, aka an ESOP, as of April 2017. After years of considerable thought and planning, Steve Malcom, the company’s owner and CEO, decided the optimal course for Knickerbocker Group’s future is to essentially convey the company to its employees in the form of an ESOP. Malcom supports this transition with the belief that Knickerbocker group is what it is today due to the collective hard work, dedication, vision, and passion of its team.
Beachscapes Sandcastle Contest is July 27
People are invited to express creativity and enjoy some friendly competition at the Beachcombers’ Rest Nature Center Beachscapes Sandcastle Contest on Thursday, July 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., weather permitting. Contestants are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild in the construction of castles, sea creatures, forts, or even raked sand gardens adorned with rocks, seaweed, or found objects.

James Allen Lorenzen Sr., 63, passed away with his family by his side at Quarry Hill in Camden on July 20 after more than a decade battling Multiple Sclerosis.
Rotary Summer Food for Kids Shed Launched
The Rotary Club of Damariscotta-Newcastle is launching a new summer effort to help feed hungry children in Lincoln County, the Rotary Summer Food for Kids shed. A shed opposite Supplies Unlimited on Business Route 1 in Damariscotta will be used by volunteers from the Rotary Club to distribute free food to children up to age 18 on a walk-in basis. Both food for immediate snacking and food to prepare at home will be supplied.
Summer Fun at Library, Castle Tucker
“Storytime on the Lawn,” a free program presented by Historic New England and the Wiscasset Public Library, will take place at the library from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 26.

For Abby Shaughnessy, studying marine biology at the University of Maine was a natural choice. Drawn to the ocean from a young age, Shaughnessy, a senior in the university’s School of Marine Sciences, is spending her summer interning at the Darling Marine Center in Walpole.
Bean and Casserole Supper at St. Philip’s
In order to raise funds to pay the bill for fixing its iconic New England steeple, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Wiscasset will hold the second of its summer supper series, an iconic New England event: a baked bean and casserole supper. The supper will take place on Monday, July 31 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The Maine Department of Transportation won an award for the South Bristol bridge project in the Northeast regional America’s Transportation Awards competition.
Tom Raymond Bowls at Saltwater
Tom Raymond began turning wood bowls in high school and bought his first lathe in 1949. Turning was put on hold while he was in the U.S. Navy and then worked full time as an engineer. Raymond began full-time woodworking after retiring to Damariscotta in 1995. The contrasting wood colors in his segmented designs are unique.
