Sheepscott Community Supper Canceled
The Sheepscott Community Church Board has decided to cancel the community supper on Saturday, Feb. 10, as a result of weather forecasts. Safety is the primary concern and the board wants to ensure it is not putting anyone at risk. Though board members will miss the opportunity to share a meal and break bread together, they look forward to next month’s community supper on Saturday, March 10.
Local Land Trusts Work to Benefit Midcoast Communities
In Midcoast Maine, several local conservation organizations work alongside one another to improve the quality of life in local communities in many ways, including establishing a legacy of permanently conserved lands. With the help of a statewide network called the Maine Land Trust Network, the land trust community collected survey information to better understand the value of conserved lands for area residents. Midcoast Maine Makes Lonely Planet Top 10 List
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, travel media authority Lonely Planet revealed the top 10 destinations in the United States this year in its Best in the U.S. 2018 list. Midcoast Maine weighs in at the No. 6 spot, ahead of Richmond, Va.; Kentucky Bourbon Country; Minneapolis, Minn.; and Southeastern Utah.
CLC Y, Hannaford Partner on Fill the Y Bus Food Drive
The Central Lincoln County YMCA and Hannaford Supermarket in Damariscotta will once again partner to host a Fill the Y Bus food drive. The Y bus will be parked in front of Hannaford Supermarket on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 1-6 p.m. to collect food items in an effort to help support the Lincoln Academy Cubbies, the Great Salt Bay Community School and Nobleboro Central School backpack programs, and the Ecumenical Food Pantry.
Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Plant Sale Catalog is Online
Even though it is still snowing, it’s not too early to plan for spring. This year, Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District has its largest offering ever: 167 varieties, 36 of them brand new – 59 bareroot fruit trees and berries; 65 bareroot trees and shrubs (including some hard-to-find natives); 43 organically grown, potted perennials and herbs, with a few more still to be added.

Historic Building Grant Program Offers Energy Efficiency Grants
Grants of up to $20,000 are available through the Maine Community Foundation to help nonprofits implement energy efficiency measures in historic buildings they own. The community foundation’s Belvedere Historic Preservation and Energy Efficiency Fund typically awards approximately $250,000 per year for the restoration of historic buildings. The program will expand in 2018 to award an additional $100,000 each year for energy efficiency projects in historic buildings.

Volunteers Needed for Rotary-Lions Food Pack
The fourth Damariscotta Rotary-Lions nonperishable food pack will take place on Saturday, April 14 from noon-4 p.m. at the Central Lincoln County YMCA in Damariscotta. One hundred volunteers from the community will be needed in order to successfully pack and box 20,000 meals of macaroni and cheese, and tomato and rice. Boxes will be distributed to area food pantries.

Beekeeping Classes to Begin in February
The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers Association is offering its annual bee school to individuals interested in learning more about keeping bees. Instructors of the classes are members of the association. In addition, the Maine State Apiarist will speak one evening on honey bee pests and pest management.
Dow Reminds Constituents to Search Unclaimed Property List, Claim Money
Sen. Dana Dow, R-Waldoboro, announced on Thursday, Jan. 25 the addition of $11.6 million to Maine’s Unclaimed Property Fund. This property consists of financial assets that have gone unclaimed by their owners. The last known owner’s information is now available at maine.gov/unclaimed. In total, the Office of the State Treasurer has more than $241 million of unclaimed property.
Waldoboro Woman’s Club News
The Waldoboro Woman’s Club met at noon on Jan. 9 at the VFW hall on Mill Street in Waldoboro. The hostesses were Betty Studley, Jean Lawrence, and Nancy Gault. Judi Lawrence, president, led the business meeting.
