In an effort to assist thousands of residents without power on Christmas Day, warming stations have opened at three locations in Lincoln County. Readers in the area who have power and out of state readers unaffected by the power outages may want to contact others they may know who are suffering from a power outage in Lincoln County and advise them of these locations. All of the locations will remain open until power is restored.

About 50 people turned out at the Wiscasset Middle School Dec. 19 to meet the seven candidates seeking to become members of Wiscasset’s school committee.

The Lincoln County Commissioners approved a county budget of $10,428,517 for fiscal year 2014 while meeting for the final time in 2013 Dec. 28.

Some Lincoln County schools and businesses are reporting closures and delays following an overnight snowstorm that lasted a bit longer than forecast, and may have dumped more snow than predicted. On the bright side, no power outages have been reported in Lincoln County by Central Maine Power despite the snowfall accumulation, which stayed light and “fluffy” because of low temps. Additionally, aside from the usual slide offs, no major incidents have been reported regarding the storm at the time of this posting.

Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith will be resigning from her position as of Feb. 7, 2014 to take a position as town manager of Kennebunkport, according to Wiscasset Town Office staff.

According to Wiscasset Town Clerk Christine Wolfe, the nomination papers are in for those seeking to serve on the new Wiscasset School Committee.

The Wiscasset Fire Department is on scene of a reported propane leak at Judi’s Country Store on Route 1 in Wiscasset.

Three area fire departments have opened their doors as warming stations, and more locations are expected to open, according to Tod Hartung of the Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency. Fire departments in Alna, Dresden and Wiscasset are presently open and available for residents to warm up in. Any additional locations will be posted here as soon as the information is obtained.

Wiscasset High School senior Abby Dunn, singer, songwriter and acoustic guitarist, has already written nearly 75 songs and has aspirations of having her own band someday.

Meeting for the final time in 2013 on Dec. 28, the Lincoln County Commissioners voted to spend $1000 to help begin a shuttle service from Wiscasset to Boothbay.

The Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency has designated a single telephone number for use by any Lincoln County resident in need of warming during the current wave of power outages. That telephone number is 882-7332, according to Tod Hartung of the LCEMA. Communications officers at the Lincoln County Communications Center will answer the number and refer callers to the appropriate resource, Hartung said.

The Waldoboro Police Department is expecting to make an arrest in the case of a cat pierced with an arrow that later died, according to Chief Bill Labombarde.
