With 143 votes, residents of RSU #12 have chosen a wolverine to replace the controversial moniker “redskin” as Wiscasset High School’s new mascot. The voting, which concluded April 7, was conducted entirely online and received 344 total responses according to WHS educator Deb Pooler.

Former Damariscotta Man Sentenced On Federal Firearms Charge
The United States Attorney’s Office announces that United States District Judge George Z. Singal, sitting in Portland, sentenced Wayne N. Collamore, age 60, originally of Damariscotta, to serve 17.5 in federal prison for escape and possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony. Collamore pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2010.
