Newcastle Surgeon Helps Rebuild Pakistan
Dr. Rifat Zaidi, a resident of Newcastle and orthopedic surgeon at Miles Memorial Hospital, visits his native Pakistan annually. Following a 2005 earthquake that left 87,000 dead and 3.5 million homeless, Zaidi began the visits as a way to assist in relief efforts.

During their regular meeting Nov. 1, the Edgecomb Board of Selectman responded to questions over lingering concerns associated with the failed Davis Island development on Eddy Road. In pointed comments to the Board, Edgecomb resident Jarryl Larson accused the selectmen of conducting seven months of “secret meetings” on the 21-acre property that left the town with “a huge vacuum” of information Larson said.

A woman suspected of passing counterfeit bills in Damariscotta and Wiscasset has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Forgery, a Class B crime, as well as Theft by Deception and Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs, Class D crimes.

Damariscotta Police Report
On Oct. 19 at approximately 5:30 p.m. a male subject stole a John Deere riding tractor, a push lawnmower, a weed wacker and a leaf blower from 387 Bristol Rd. The subject loaded the tractor and other items onto a trailer that had a New Hampshire plate on it. The subject was operating a light colored foreign made SUV or truck with a cap on it. Anyone who witnessed this event or who might have any information, please call the Damariscotta Police Department at 563-1909.
