Following general approval at a public hearing, the Town of Bremen will place an item on the Nov. 2 ballot asking voters to approve a recall ordinance, which would create a process for voters to remove any elected town official whom they deem is not adequately serving the town.

John Birch Society President Preaches To The Choir In Waldoboro Speech
John McManus, president of the John Birch Society, scanned the packed basement room of Waldoboro’s First Baptist Church on Sept. 13 and said, “people in Maine are ready for the truth.” His presentation, “Stealing The American Dream, How Illegal Immigration Affects You” drew a large and boisterous crowd who came to hear McManus address the hot button political issue of immigration.

Updated – Structure Fire in Somerville Claims Life of 86-Year-Old Woman
An 86-year-old Somerville woman died when a fire swept through her home Saturday evening, according to the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. The body of Pauline Danley, of 152 Frye Rd. in Somerville, was found in her bedroom, which is also where the fire started, according to Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.

Four Weigh-Off Contestants Shatter Maine Pumpkin Record
The top four pumpkins in the Second Annual Damariscotta Pumpkinfest Weigh-Off on Sun., Oct. 3 at Pinkham’s Plantation all surpassed the previous state record for the heaviest pumpkin.

DOT Pleads Poverty, Urges Patience With Rt. 144
In a letter to Westport Island Board of Selectmen, Maine Department of Transportation regional manager Michael Burns made a commitment to immediately address the worst portions of heavily damaged Rt. 144.
Sheepscot Road Closed Until October
The Dept. of Transportation (DOT) began a scheduled closure of Sheepscot Road Sept. 20. The road will remain closed to through traffic until Oct. 1, Public Information Officer Mark Latti said.
DOT crews are replacing a culvert about halfway between the road’s intersection with Rt. 1 and the village of Sheepscot, Latti said.
Breaking News – Waldoboro Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography
A 24-year-old Waldoboro man pleaded guilty on Sept. 30 in Lincoln County Superior Court to five counts of possession of sexually explicit material of minors under 12 years old.

Aug. 26, Deputy Todd Chilton took a burglary complaint in the Jefferson area. The complainant stated that sometime between Aug. 22-26, someone(s) kicked in his back door and stole a Husqvarna chainsaw – approximate value of $400 and a black/yellow Dewalt Sawzall – approximately value of $100.
