Shore-To-Table Events in Boothbay Region
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens have teamed up for a two-day celebration and exploration of Maine’s native superfood — sea vegetables. The series will feature two events: a free panel discussion on local sea greens and a paid course on wild foraging. A free panel discussion, “Maine Sea Vegetables: Past, Present, and Future,” will be held at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens on Friday, Oct. 13 from 5-6 p.m.
Pie by the Slice Over Pumpkinfest Weekend
Pie by the slice will be on sale over Damariscotta Pumpkinfest weekend, Oct. 8-10, thanks to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Glidden Street, next to the river in Newcastle. The church will use its Main Street parking lot for its “Heavenly Pies” stand, selling pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies baked by skilled parishioners, along with cider and coffee.
Veterans to View Counterterrorism DVD
Veterans from all branches of the U.S. military are invited to attend an informal get-together on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 9:30-10-30 a.m. at Chase Point Assisted Living, 51 Schooner St., Damariscotta. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month at Chase Point.
‘Firearms of Colonial America’ in Newcastle
On Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., the Newcastle Historical Society will host a talk by Jeffrey Miller called “Firearms of Colonial America,” an overview of the various types of firearms used commonly in New England during the Colonial era. The talk will be held in the community room at the Newcastle fire station on River Road. A short business meeting will be held after the presentation.

An electronic navigation course will take place on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Wiscasset Middle High School, aimed at those overwhelmed by all the functions on a GPS or chart plotter, those who want to use a tablet or smartphone to help navigate on a boat, and those interested in using a desktop computer program to plan a cruise and then copy that information to a GPS.
