This week, along with the wonderful film “Indignation,” we have three theatrical broadcasts. For Downton Abbey fans, Lady Rose (Lily James) takes on the role of Juliet in a Shakespeare classic. American theater fans will revel in the modern take of an Arthur Miller classic. And for fans of musicals, Mack the Knife returns. Such fun.

Due to great audience response, “Florence Foster Jenkins” will hold over for a second week and play through Thursday, Sept. 22 at The Harbor Theatre.

This week, Meryl Streep stars as an aspiring-but-painfully-untalented opera singer in “Florence Foster Jenkins.”

As we move toward the fall months, our movie schedule broadens to include other live, or captured-live, performances from around the world. September marks the return of theater performances from London’s West End – including two Shakespeare classics, an American theater classic, and a classic musical, all of which can be seen at Lincoln Theater. And don’t miss “Captain Fantastic,” a family saga that is being talked about as one of the best films of the year.

Nobleboro Historical Society’s annual AppleFest will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Nobleboro Central School, 194 Center St., and the historical center at 198 Center St., Nobleboro.

As it has for many years, the Second Congregational Church, UCC at 51 Main St. in Newcastle will hold its end-of-season service at Pemaquid Lighthouse Park in Bristol. The service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11. Weather permitting, the service will be held outside beside the lighthouse, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or one to share. This is a wonderful opportunity to invite a friend to come along. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the park’s adjacent community center/museum.

A design showhouse will be the highlight of a Glimpse of Glidden Street, this year’s outreach fundraising event for St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, located at 11 Glidden St. in Newcastle. Scheduled for Wednesday-Sunday, Sept. 28-Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festivities will include tours of the Arts and Crafts-period architectural gem of the church itself, visits to select buildings and grounds on historic Glidden Street, a silent auction, concerts in the church, and a preview party.

Woody Allen’s “Cafe Society” plays through Thursday, Sept. 1, followed by “Pete’s Dragon,” with Robert Redford, this week at The Harbor Theatre.
