On Saturday, May 27, starting at 2 p.m., traditional tunes of the British Isles will be performed on the parade grounds of Fort William Henry, at the Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site, by a kilted band from Ellsworth, to open Memorial Day weekend. The event will include commentary and a salute to those who have served the nation.
The Waldoborough Historical Society will host a special program called “Salute to Veterans” on Sunday, May 28 at 4 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Mill Street in Waldoboro.
On Friday, May 26 at 4 p.m., Lincoln Academy in Newcastle will dedicate its new John Bowers Baseball Field. John Bowers was a Lincoln Academy graduate in the Class of 1975 who was an avid baseball player. He served on the Lincoln Academy Board of Trustees for many years before passing away in 2011.
A special evening Chats with Champions program, “Our Diverse Entrepreneurs – Their Story and Why They Are Staying Local” will take place Tuesday, May 23 beginning at 5 p.m. in the Porter Meeting Hall of Skidompha Library. Please allow time for parking.
From Wednesday-Saturday, May 24-27, Smitten Collectibles & Nerdy Treasures in Damariscotta will accept donations of old towels and other needed items for the Lincoln County Animal Shelter in Edgecomb in celebration of Towel Day, Thursday, May 25.
Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Food Mobile will be distributing food, including fresh produce, meat, and nonperishable items, to people in need in the greater Whitefield area.
A historic photography exhibit titled “Lincoln County Through Eastern’s Eye” will be on display at Boothbay Railway Village May 27-June 29. A related illustrated talk by Penobscot Marine Museum photo archivist Kevin Johnson will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6 at the same location; admission to the talk is free, with a suggested $5 donation.
The Central Lincoln County YMCA and Hannaford Supermarket, at 469 Main St, in Damariscotta, will host a Fill the Y Bus food drive in front of the supermarket on Tuesday, May 16 from 1-6 p.m. to collect food items to help support food pantries within Lincoln County.
Rep. Mick Devin, D-Newcastle, and former State Sen. Chris Johnson will speak at a Mother’s Day Eve spaghetti supper to be held on Saturday, May 13 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Lincoln County Democratic Committee. To honor all of our mothers, Devin and Johnson will speak about their mothers and tell us about the ways that they were influenced by them in their political lives.
Community Housing Improvement Project Inc. will host a yard sale on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lawn of the St. Andrew’s Parish House, located at 16 Glidden St., Newcastle. Under the leadership of Ruth Piper, this sale has been organized after Louis Doe Home Center generously donated a large portion of its hardware stock to clear out space within the building.
One can gain the skills necessary to get a good job by attending two free job-seeker workshops being offered through a partnership of Central Lincoln County Adult Education and Goodwill Workforce Solutions. The workshops will be held at the CLC Adult Education office, at 767 Main St. in Damariscotta from 9 a.m. to noon.
Lincoln Academy Alumni Weekend, sponsored by the Lincoln Academy Alumni Council and Development Office will be held Thursday-Sunday, June 15-18.
The Jefferson Village School PTA will host its ninth annual Jefferson Jubilee at Jefferson Village School, at 48 Washington Road in Jefferson, from 6-8:30 p.m., Friday, May 5. Dinner admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. The dinner will consist of spaghetti, salad, a roll, beverages, and dessert.
The Newcastle Historical Society will hold its Wednesday, May 3 meeting at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Newcastle fire station, at 86 River Road, Newcastle.
