During the past month, many hands have shaped bark, bent ribs, split and lashed spruce roots, laid in planks, wedged ribs into place, and sealed seams. Master canoe-builder Steve Cayard, interns Dan Asher and Tobias Francis, and students from Lincoln Academy are putting the finishing touches on a traditional 14-foot Wabanaki birch-bark canoe at Lincoln Academy’s Applied Technology and Engineering Center, where the construction is taking place.

Midcoast Conservancy, at 36 Water St. in Wiscasset, will hold an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19 for all Wiscasset residents and business owners, as well as anyone else interested in the current Maine Department of Transportation’s Wiscasset traffic-improvement plan. Attendees are invited to enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers, as well as share any thoughts or concerns about the future of Midcoast Conservancy in Wiscasset.

Last Simply Supper in Bremen
With the coming of spring, Bremen Union Church will hold the last of its four free community meals of the season on Tuesday, April 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Donna Finneran, the host for this Simply Supper event, has planned a meal of favorite hot casseroles, salads, and homemade breads.
Damariscotta Contra Dance with The Oystermen
There will be a contra dance at the Damariscotta Baptist Church on Friday, April 14 featuring The Oystermen — Carter Newell on fiddle, Smokey McKeen on accordion and guitar, and Eric Rolfson on bass and mandolin – with Maggie Robinson calling at 8 p.m. There will also be a potluck and an all-ages family dance starting at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Oyster Creek Fiddlers, with Kaity Newell calling.

Pre-Easter Barn Open House in Bremen
The Barber’s Bunnies angora barn is changing the date of its usual Easter open house and hosting a pre-Easter open house instead on Sunday, April 9 from 1-3 p.m. at 844 Waldoboro Road in Bremen. Visitors will get a peek at Anna Barber’s huge, fuzzy angora rabbits and the items she makes from their fiber. Only adult rabbits are on the premises and one rabbit will get a much-needed haircut in a shearing demonstration.
March of Dimes Pancake Breakfast
A pancake breakfast fundraiser for the March of Dimes is planned for Saturday, April 8 from 9-11 a.m. at the Damariscotta Baptist Church, 4 Bristol Road, Damariscotta. The event will be hosted by Team Garron, who raises money in memory of Garron Martin through the March of Dimes March for Babies event.
Personal-Story Writing Workshop in Damariscotta
The Inn Along the Way will host a free six-week workshop beginning Thursday, April 13 titled “From Memory to Memoir” at the Chapman Farm, 741 Main St., Damariscotta. Designed for anyone, not just people who consider themselves writers, the workshop will give participants the opportunity to take a personal reminiscence and craft a story to share with family and friends. The workshop facilitator will be Barbara Burt.
