Greetings, dear readers. Here I am, your Marilyn Beane’s World columnist writing in the third week of August trying to get news about my life at Crawford Commons Assisted Living.

Women on the walls: Elaine Pew and Jorge Pena, the co-curators of the “Three Women on Board” exhibit at Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, were kind enough to give me a sneak peek of the show last Friday afternoon, Aug. 24, before it opened officially that evening.
Lyme Time Who you see matters!
There is a phrase that the Lyme community uses that has upset the rest of the medical world: “Lyme-literate doctor.” This phrase has been developed and used to specifically to highlight those who are highly educated and experienced in diagnosing and treating Lyme and tick-borne diseases. They are heavily networked with other Lyme-literate providers and consult with on difficult cases.
Food, Life, and Manhattans Zuke gobs
Zucchini is a popular summer veggie, prolific around this time of year in Maine, as it’s one of the easiest vegetables to grow. But it’s a little lacking in taste, unless you roast it with plenty of garlic, salt, and olive oil. Then it’s yummy. But what isn’t yummy with garlic, olive oil, and salt? And with some Parmesan cheese thrown on top to turn golden brown when roasted? Duh.

Guitar loops for lunch: I treated myself two weeks in a row, taking in both of Salt Bay Chamberfest’s free Thursdays @ Noon concerts at Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta. Last week, I wrote about the fabulous hour-long solo performance on Aug. 9 by world-class classical guitarist Jason Vieaux. This week, I will tell you about the equally top-notch – but style-wise wildly different – noontime concert of electric guitarist Steven Mackey.
Ponder and Stir
When you lose someone you love, your life changes. When I lost my best friend, Steve, I realized immediately how much my life would change.
Truckin’ in America
Hey folks! So I rolled over about 4:30 in the a.m. this Saturday past, gave Ms. Sue a little peck, and jumped out of bed. After a quick shower and shave, and another little peck (I think she mumbled something like “Have a safe trip”), I was out the door.
Food, Life, and Manhattans Clams: steamers, clam pie, and linguine with clam sauce
Maine clams – from steamers, to fried, to clam chowder, to clam pie, to linguine with clam sauce – they’re the ultimate Maine seafood.
Energy Matters Relieving I-295 traffic congestion between Scarborough and Brunswick
According to the Portland Press Herald in a June 27 article, the Maine Department of Transportation has issued a report that includes near-term plans for improvements to I-295, such as pull-off lanes, message boards, and longer approach ramps to relieve chokepoints and reduce the number of crashes.

Beautiful music for lunch: I had the pleasure on Thursday, Aug. 9 of attending the noontime concert of classical guitarist Jason Vieaux at Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta, part of Salt Bay Chamberfest’s new Thursdays @ Noon series.
Paws for Thought
As I sit here staring at a blank screen, it occurs to me that I might need some help. I love animals; I could write about the antics of my doggo and kitty friends all day long, but that doesn’t mean you, as a reader, want to hear about them. So I’m asking for your help. I need some new ideas. Otherwise, you’ll be forced to hear about my cat and how cute she is for the 837th time. (To be fair, she is pretty darned cute; however, I may be biased.)
Ask the Vet The importance of the physical exam and vaccination
“Why does my pet need a physical exam every year?”
Detecting disease early is key to helping our pets live longer, healthier, and more comfortable lives. The health of your pet can change rapidly as he or she ages, and changes often go unnoticed.
Truckin’ in America
Hey folks, been an interestin’ week truckin’, as I made another trip down to Amish country in Pennsylvania. Although I didn’t deliver to an Amish farm, I did deliver to a feed mill that sells mostly to the Amish people.
Food, Life, and Manhattans Jean Elliot Thayer left us
So last weekend was kind of an emotional roller-coaster ride. I’ll get to food in a bit, I promise, but as the column head states, this is about life too. And Manhattans, of course.
