Last November, David Trahan of Waldoboro telephoned me to offer his assistance in collecting signatures for the citizen initiated petition to repeal the school consolidation law.

I would like to congratulate the owners of the “Fisherman’s Catch Seafood Market” in Damariscotta for their effort to ‘Keep Damariscotta Independent’ by buying locally.

We must provide tax relief for Mainers.

 

Wood Boiler Rule changes

A hearing will take place on Oct. 16 regarding proposed changes to wood boiler rules. Some of the proposals include requirements for outdoor pellet boilers such as setbacks from neighboring properties and minimum stack height and a replacement and buyback program to remove nuisance outdoor wood boilers that were installed prior to Feb. 1, 2008.

As you may know the Maine legislature has passed a law that there cannot be more than 80 school districts in Maine.

I support Sheridan Bond for County Commissioner, even though the district has changed and I can no longer vote for him. Sheridan has shown great leadership as both a member and Chairman of the Lincoln County Commissioners.

An amazing thing happened in Damariscotta in early September. It was a first for our county, and, I believe was the first step toward making Lincoln County a distinguished center of higher education.

Representative Jonathan McKane understands what needs to be done about the high cost of health insurance.

Dr. Erik Steele, chief medical officer for Eastern Maine Health Care Systems in Bangor and a columnist for the Bangor Daily News, a few weeks ago gave a striking talk to a gathering of the Maine Health Management Coalition titled, “Maine is Burning.”

I don’t understand why Gov. Baldacci and the legislators in Augusta come down so hard on small business.

It was my distinct honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Lincoln County as District 3 Commissioner for 20 years.

At this stage of the election process, most citizens of Maine, regardless of political party affiliation, are worn out by the political ads, debates, name calling, and endless claims of who is the better candidate for a particular political office.

To the Editor:

I encourage all to celebrate and support healthy parenting support services in our region. This week (Oct. 20-24) is celebrated as Home Visiting Week in Maine by proclamation from Maine’s Governor.
