We cannot begin to express our great appreciation for the many ways in which our families, friends, associates and community have supported us through Gil’s injury. Lincoln County Communications and 911, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine Warden Service, the Maine State Police, Bristol Fire and Rescue and CLC Ambulance all teamed up to care for Gil and get him to help.

A great big thank you to everyone who made it possible for the wonderful time we seniors enjoyed on Saturday at the Boothbay school.

There was a moment at the end of the final presidential debate this past Monday, when the two candidates are on stage with their families, shaking hands and engaging in small talk.

To those who have been to the town hearings or read the front page of The Lincoln County News concerning the upcoming vote.

The critical upcoming presidential election will determine whether this democracy will be upheld or whether it will become a plutocracy, ruled by, and for the very wealthiest among us.

Much has been written lately about same sex marriage and I would like to strive to establish the bottom line of absolute truth. “In the beginning God created…” This gives our Almighty Sovereign God the right and authority to make the rules.

It’s only fitting the clock stopped this week.

Damariscotta’s historic town clock, famously housed in the steeple of the First Baptist Church on Bristol Road and Main Street, ran down and stopped Tuesday morning, Oct. 16 at 9:50 a.m.

I am writing in response to the article concerning the Goose Hill Road in Jefferson. According to the article on Sept. 27 by Shlomit Auciello, the Town government wants to take control of the land 25 feet from the center of the road outwards on each side without compensation to landowners. (“Jefferson citizens air Goose Hill Road issues,” Page 1)

I committed a serious crime in my old hometown once.

Seriously? Do you know anybody who has ever said anything like “I do not like looking, seeing, or thinking about breasts.”

Noam Chomsky, professor at MIT, said: “If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.”

While sitting at a local coffee shop here in South Bristol on Sunday morning reading the Sunday paper I was stunned to find a letter to the paper stating that the State of Maine has wasted time and money on the design of our new bridge.

Next week, on Sept. 11, choices presented at two special town meetings, each present real consequences in the towns of Waldoboro and Wiscasset.

I find it very disturbing, after going to a selectmen’s meeting that was held to consider changing wording in the town charter to authorize the town to be able to go outside the Town of Damariscotta to look for other people to police our town.
