While King Eider’s Pub co-owner Scott McArdle said he didn’t know when he took a job as a dishwasher at the Damariscotta restaurant in 1997 he would someday own the place, he did know from a young age he liked to interact with others.
In Nature Spring! At Least According To Bald Eagles
The raggedy old white pine I see from my window is a favorite perch for eagles watching for prey on the upper Damariscotta River – at least when the American flag isn’t flapping beside the tree. The national bird might pose proudly beside the flag if the thing’s flapping didn’t distract him from looking for fish or ailing ducks.

Norm’s Used Cars is well known to most Maine drivers – the business features in radio spots, bumper decals, and license plate frames across the state. Less in the spotlight, though, is the businessman at the helm of the dealership: Norman “Norm” Sherman, a lifelong Lincoln County resident whose life has been shaped by a quiet commitment to his family and the greater Wiscasset community.

Twice a day, the Great Salt Bay Community School student body flows past Samantha Adickes’ desk, located just inside the Damariscotta school’s main entrance. According to Adickes, the organized chaos of arrival and dismissal is just a small part of what can a very busy job.

Stories from the Shelter On To The Next
As I often do with a new year, this January, I find myself reflecting on the last several whirlwind years I have had with Midcoast Humane and thinking about what our future holds. We held a town hall at the Central Lincoln County YMCA on Nov. 21 to discuss exactly that for our Edgecomb campus. The answer to its future is not straightforward and requires community input and participation to determine.
