Passages Program Accepting Applications
Wayfinder Schools is now accepting applications for its Passages program. Passages is a home-based high school diploma program for young parents and other Maine teens who are struggling in traditional school settings. Passages accepts Maine students, ages 14-20, living in Knox, Lincoln, Waldo, Sagadahoc, Androscoggin, York, Cumberland, and Washington counties.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Nobleboro Central School Parent Teacher Organization will host the second annual NobleBOOro Spooktacular at Duck Puddle Campground from 5-8 p.m.

Katherine Seibel Begins Medical School
Katherine Seibel, of Damariscotta, received her white coat in a ceremony marking her symbolic entrance into the medical field in a ceremony at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland on Sept. 22. It was the 22nd white coat ceremony at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, the largest provider of physicians for the state of Maine.
Free Info Classes on Substitute Teacher, Bus Driver Positions
Part-time jobs as bus drivers and substitute teachers are needed at many area schools. Those who have ever wondered about what it takes to work as a school bus driver or substitute are encouraged to come to one of these one-night sessions where all one’s questions will be answered. One can even get started on the paperwork that night.
Letter from Florida Worth it all

7 a.m., not 7:02 or even a second past 7 would be acceptable for the professional trainers giving us responsibility for their horses’ lives. The first noticeable smell is the freshly mowed grass, and a hint of the lavender that roams in one of the fields the horses graze in. Everything I am required to wear is collared and tucked in, and by the end of the day dirty and worn. All 30 stalls must be cleaned within the first hour, alongside other aspiring equestrians.
Financial Aid Seminar in Wiscasset
FAME (Finance Authority of Maine) will hold an educational seminar on paying for higher education in the Lincoln County Communications 9-1-1 conference room on Monday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. This two-part session will first focus on the benefits of savings and how the financial aid process works. FAME will then share tips to help families navigate the process and maximize eligibility.
Four Winds Training Session Held at GSB
The first Four Winds nature program training for the school year took place at Great Salt Bay Community School in Damariscotta on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The training was led by Lisa Purcell, executive director of Four Winds Nature Institute of Chittenden, Vt. The theme for this year’s nature lessons is “ecosystems.”
Lincoln Academy to Host Parent Open House Sept. 26
On Wednesday, Sept. 26, Lincoln Academy in Newcastle will host its annual open house for families of LA students. Families should start this informative evening by reporting to their student’s advisor classroom at 6 p.m., where they will receive a mini “bell schedule” to follow from class to class. This allows parents to meet each of their students’ teachers and learn a little about each class.

The Great Salt Bay Community School Parent-Teacher Organization executive team for 2018-2020 consists of Kerri Lilly and Liz McGregor, co-presidents; Christina Belknap, vice president; Kristie Houghton, secretary; and Kristin Michaud, treasurer. They look forward to serving the parents and the school in hopes of building an even stronger school community. They welcome people’s contributions, opinions, insights, and assistance.
Kindergartners Brighten Nobleboro Central Halls
The kindergarten class at Nobleboro Central School hit the ground running last week as they made new friends and explored the school and playground.
Lincoln Academy’s Senior Family Night
Lincoln Academy’s Senior Family Night will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Parker B. Poe Theater, on the school campus.
