A varied roster of spring classes from one called “Easy Bluegrass Jamming” to a class titled of “Chaucer’s Pilgrims: Their Lives, Many Sins, and Occasional Virtues” offers stimulating learning opportunities for both new and returning members of Coastal Senior College. Classes are $35 each; membership is $25. All classes meet during the daytime in Knox and Lincoln counties. “If you want to meet wonderful people and be stimulated intellectually, then there’s no better deal in town,” said one Coastal Senior College instructor.

The budget committee of the board continues to meet and hear the proposal from the district’s administrators. On Monday, March 13, the budget meeting took place at Warren Community School at 6:30 p.m., with presentations from the high school, special education, and technology.

Report on FARMS Visit by Lorna Fake’s GSB Class
Our class went to the FARMS Kitchen on Monday, March 6 to learn how to cook three different African dishes. We are studying Africa and we are learning how farming and cooking is different there. Karen showed us lots of different vegetables that we were going to be using in the recipes. We got to touch them and smell them. Most of the vegetables we knew the names of, but there were some that we didn’t know.
LA Senior is National Merit Finalist
Based on a very high score on the PSAT, Lincoln Academy senior Jacob Brown was selected as a National Merit finalist in February.

Thirteen students have been selected to have their artwork on display at The Lincoln Home in Newcastle. There’s a formal opening from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8. All are invited to go by The Lincoln Home during the months of March and April to see the great work. County Residents on UMF Dean’s List
The University of Maine at Farmington announced its dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester. The university maintains a dean’s list each semester for those students completing a minimum of 12 credits in courses producing quality points.
RSU 40 Substitute-Teacher Class
Learn about becoming a substitute teacher for RSU 40 in the upcoming MSAD #40 Adult Education class called “Becoming a Substitute Teacher for RSU 40.” This session will be presented by RSU 40 employees to provide one with the needed information to apply to be a substitute teacher.

Environmental-Art Scholarship Contest Open
Liberty Graphics, a Liberty-based company that prints environmentally conscious T-shirts, is currently accepting art submissions to its 20th annual $1,000 art-scholarship contest. All high school seniors residing in Maine are invited to submit original works that reflect on the theme “Art and Our Natural Environment.” The award is intended to aid and encourage students in the pursuit of their artistic experiences and learning.

Lincoln Academy in Newcastle is offering an event called Sophomore-Junior Family Night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 (storm date: Thursday, March 9) in the LA Alumni Dining Commons. This meeting will focus on postsecondary education information, as the college application process is quite detailed and complex.
