Environmental-Art Scholarship Contest Open
Liberty Graphics, a Liberty-based company that prints environmentally conscious T-shirts, is currently accepting art submissions to its 20th annual $1,000 art-scholarship contest. All high school seniors residing in Maine are invited to submit original works that reflect on the theme “Art and Our Natural Environment.” The award is intended to aid and encourage students in the pursuit of their artistic experiences and learning.

Lincoln Academy in Newcastle is offering an event called Sophomore-Junior Family Night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 (storm date: Thursday, March 9) in the LA Alumni Dining Commons. What is a “milk challenge”? This experiment involved students calculating number of cartons of leftover milk dumped each day from Monday-Thursday. On Friday, we made a challenge to the school to drink as much milk as they could.

LA Seeks Vacation Homestays for International Students
It is a long way home for many of the international students attending Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. While the school offers comfortable dormitories while school is in session, not all of the international students are able to travel home during academic breaks. Of the 90 students attending Lincoln Academy from 19 countries this year, approximately two dozen hope to stay with local families for a week during February and April vacations.

Sixth-Grader Wins NCS Geography Bee
Sixth-grader Alden Hunold was the winner of the geography bee at Nobleboro Central School on Jan. 25. Seventh-grader Isaac Powell was the runner-up. Hunold was scheduled to take a written test that would determine if he would qualify to move on to a statewide level of competition, according to NCS teacher and bee master Doug Parcher.
