Youth Bear Hunting Day is Aug. 26, Bear Season Starts Aug. 28

Maine’s bear season begins on Monday, Aug. 28 throughout the state of Maine, and youth hunters get their own day on Saturday, Aug. 26. Last year, 10,936 hunters purchased a permit to hunt bear, with 2,859 hunters harvesting a bear for a success rate of 26 percent.

Plourde Wins Third Straight Janet Drouin Memorial

Bailey Plourde, of Newcastle, won her third straight Janet Drouin Memorial Open Championship on Aug. 14 and 15 on the Arrowhead course at Natanis in Vassalboro. Plourde has been crowned both the overall champion and junior champion for the past three years.
