Bayley Pendleton scored the game winning goal by way of a penalty stroke with 44 seconds left in double overtime, to give a jubilant Lincoln Academy field hockey team their first varsity win since 2006. The dramatic 2-1 victory came in the team’s KVAC opener against the Morse Shipbuilders.

Wiscasset girls soccer team opened their Mt. Valley Conference season with a 5-0 shutout win at Boothbay on Sept. 5. The Lady Wolverines outshot the Seahawks 22-4, including unleashing 18 first half shots.

Medomak Valley tied Oceanside 1-1 in their KVAC opener in Waldoboro on Sept. 5. In the three years since Oceanside was formed, joining Rockland and Georges Valley, the Mariners had won every contest on the soccer pitch.

Boothbay boys won a cross-country meet on their home course Sept. 17, placing five scoring runners in the top eight.

After opening the season with three straight wins, the Wiscasset girls soccer team lost three games to the dogs this week.

Bailey Plourde, 14, of Newcastle, tied for third at the Women’s Maine State Amateur golf championships last week with a two-day total of five over par with 160. She was the Junior Champion at the event.
