Lincoln Academy athletic director KJ Anastasio announced April 11 that Chris McKenney has been hired as the new varsity boys’ basketball coach.

After a long snowy winter, it was nice to take a break in the sunny south last week.

Two of CLC YMCA’s competitive gymnastics team members, under the direction of coach Janice Cormier-Hay, went to Waterville April 9 to compete at the USA Gymnastics State Meet

Lincoln Academy’s baseball team returns all but two players from a team that went 10-5 last year and lost to Yarmouth in the West B semifinals. Many of the seniors played on the 2009 team that were West B runner-ups.

Medomak Valley High School girls’ track numbers are down a little bit from last year.

Lincoln Academy’s softball team returns a veteran crew, including six seniors. Senior Amelia Pennington returns to the mound, after leading the Lady Eagles to a 13-3 record last season.

Veteran coach Warren Cossette has a good group out for track and field this spring, including many veteran and talented athletes. There are 33 athletes out for the team, including 19 boys and 14 girls.

Six members of the Unsinkable Swim team, from the Wiscasset Community Center, competed at the 2011 Eastern Zones Swimming Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, N. Y. from March 31 to April 2.

On April 3 the youngest members of the Central Lincoln County YMCA gymnastics pre-team, known as the Jets, went to Kennebunk to compete in their first real competition under the direction of Coach Janice Cormier-Hay.

Wiscasset High School returns five players from the 2010 team that went 10-6 in the Mt.Valley Conference last season.

Christian Moon, 6, of Jefferson, won second place in fighting and third place in Chanbara in Huard’s 31st Annual Martial Arts Championships, held Sat. March 26 at Sukee Arena & Events Center in Winslow.

University of Maine at Farmington sophomore pitcher Dale Winchenbach and freshman infielder/pitcher Alex Goldrup, both of Waldoboro, were honored by the North Eastern Athletic Conference April 5.

The CLC YMCA Grade 5/6 girls’ travel team, coached by Kevin Feltis, won their third straight tournament of the season, capturing first in the 16 team Westbrook Paper City Classic last weekend.

Wiscasset High School senior swimmers John McLeod and Ross Hanley placed in the New England High School championships, held at UNH.
