Performance :
1 Divided by Infinity is a fashion performance by Brooklyn, NY artist Camilla Carper exploring the infinitesimal, the alternate side of Infinity. In mathematics, infinitesimal numbers are a theoretical concept proposing that a quantity can be divided endlessly, no matter how small, it can be made into even smaller fractions. Carper is an interdisciplinary artist who often lives in a dressing performance, where an established set of rules directs how they wear clothing for a duration of time.

Former CIA Director John Brennan will address the challenges and opportunities facing the United States on July 29 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Lincoln Theater, 2 Theater St., Damariscotta (former location was St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle). Michael Putzel, former Associated Press reporter, will moderate the session, which includes audience participation.

Topics of discussion will include Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-HAMAS conflict, China’s rise, technology’s impact, disinformation, and climate change.
Before his government service, Mr. Brennan fondly recalls time spent in Old Orchard Beach. Recently, his sister’s family has enjoyed vacations in Damariscotta, and he has been a longtime supporter of a Carpenter’s Boat Shop volunteer.

Bigelow Laboratory’s Café Sci is a fun, free way for you to dive into global ocean issues and opportunities with leading scientists, made possible through sponsorship by HM Payson.
As we begin our 50th anniversary celebrations this summer, we’ll spend the 2024 series looking back at key innovations we’ve advanced — and ahead to what they will enable us to accomplish over the next 50 years.
On July 30, Dr. Ramunas Stepanauskas will explore how cutting-edge techniques pioneered at Bigelow Laboratory are unlocking the secrets of individual cells and revealing the foundations of marine life.
This summer, Café Sci will take place on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. at The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor from July 16 – August 6. Registration is required and space is limited. Reserve your spot today at bigelow.org/cafesci.

When we think of pairing cheese, wine is often the first companion that comes to mind – but the art of cheese pairing is so much broader. In this brand new class with cheesemaker Eric Rector (Monroe
Cheese Studio), explore a range of less-obvious but equally delicious accompaniments for your favorite Maine cheeses. Coffee, tea, and even chocolate will be the stars of the show as you learn the principles
behind creative cheese pairings that will bring new life to your cheese plates and elevate your tasting experience – without any alcohol at all!
In this class, participants will learn why certain foods pair so well with cheese and how to identify potential pairing partners for different styles of cheese. And, of course, there will be plenty of tasting! Five delicious Maine cheeses will be featured in the class, each paired with an accompaniment that illustrates the principles
being taught. A product list detailing all of the Maine products sampled during the class will be provided.
