Join us in a fun, fast method of forming and decorating clay that creates one-of-a-kind, food safe earthenware dishes you’ll love using. This is a two-part workshop held Friday evening 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. AND Saturday morning 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Sheepscot River Retreat in Alna. All instruction and materials are provided for $100 per person. Ceramic production is a time-dependent process; participants must attend both sessions. Hop on Damariscotta River Cruises’ boat to tour the Damariscotta River. From the water we’ll explore the connections between land and sea, people and place, and learn about the river harvest, past and present. We’ll move downstream, from the historic shell middens and traditional uses for alewives, to the growing number of seaweed, oyster and other sea farms on the river. The boat will stop to visit Mook Sea Farm’s oyster hatchery, as well as a couple other oyster farms, and the tour will finish with a oyster tasting, paired with beers from nearby Oxbow Brewing Co.

Following a hiatus in 2016, the Damariscotta River Pirate Rendezvous will return on Saturday, June 24 – bringing a motley crew of buccaneers both young and old to invade the Twin Villages and raise funds for local non-profits.
The Pirate Bazaar will open at 10 a.m., pirates will attack at high noon and invade the village with their numbers bolstered by young pirates who will join the crew, and there will be a Kid Pirates Costume Contest at 2 p.m. Schooner Landing will provide musical entertainment through the day, and the Pirates of the Dark Rose will create their “Tortuga Village” with exhibits, games and other activities. A variety of non-profit fundraising activities will also take place. Activities will continue at the Pirate Bazaar until 4 p.m.

Bird Watching Tour on The River Tripper narrated by Sarah Gladu, a Damariscotta River Association (DRA) naturalist and expert birder.
This cruise is timed for when osprey fledglings and bald eagles are making their first attempts to launch themselves on brief flights from the nests. Other birds often seen include: herons, kingfishers, cormorants, loons, shore birds, eiders and several other species of ducks.
