Before I dive into legislative matters, I would like to start by saying that I hope you are all enjoying your summers and making the most of what Vacationland has to offer. Although this has been an extremely humid summer, it’s hard to believe that we are already well into fair season, with the Union and Windsor fairs just around the corner.

Any-Deer Permit Deadline Approaching

Deer hunters still have time to apply for an any-deer permit, but the deadline of 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15 is fast approaching.

Ernie Couch and Revival, from Nashville to Waldoboro

On Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., Ernie Couch and Jason Couch, from Nashville, Tenn., will be returning to Waldoboro and sharing their country gospel music at the Waldoboro Word of Life Church as they spend about a week in Maine visiting six locations.

Upcoming Kayaking Trips with PWA Paddlers

On Saturday, Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m., the Pemaquid Watershed Association Paddlers will be kayaking in the waters of Muscle Ridge off Spruce Head. This group of islands is one of the most beautiful kayak destinations in Midcoast Maine. The paddle duration is approximately 2 1/2 hours and is appropriate for advanced intermediate paddlers.

Erskine Academy Bus Schedule

Students should be at their pickup points 5-10 minutes before the stated pickup times for the first few days of school. Bus fare is $10 per week. Parents of freshmen are advised to check the bus schedule at new-student orientation.

Thomas Chalmers Buchanan III Oct. 16, 1928 - Aug. 3, 2018

Thomas Chalmers Buchanan III, “Tom,” 89, lately of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3 while Beethoven serenaded him into his final sleep. He was blessed to spend his final days in the Sussman House hospice facility in Rockport, surrounded by loving family. His love of church was represented by a trio of clergymen.

Kilburn to Host ‘Guests on the Lawn’ Art Demos and Sale

Artist Jan Kilburn, partnering with artist Marnie Sinclair, will host a large group of artists painting en plein air on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The artists will be painting in the gardens and on the lawn of the Jan Kilburn Gallery and the Sinclair Gallery at the “Guests on the Lawn” event. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 19. Kilburn and Sinclair are signature members of the Bristol Road Galleries.
