George A. Jones, of Wiscasset, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on Jan. 14 after a long and joyful life. George was born on Jan. 29, 1924 in Boston, Mass. and lived in Wiscasset, a town he loved, for most of his life.

Oxbow Brewing Co.’s tasting room at the farmhouse brewery in Newcastle will release two beers when it opens up for the weekend on Thursday, Jan. 18. Original Deluxe will be back on tap, and Freestyle 42 will make its debut.

Singing Valentines Offered by Barbershop Quartets
The Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus, of Brunswick, will once again brighten the day for special ladies and gentlemen by presenting singing valentines to those special persons this coming Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14. One of the chorus’ quartets will engage their rich voices to deliver a singing valentine to a special person at home, school, a workplace, a hospital, a nursing home, or anywhere in Midcoast Maine from Freeport to Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, and Newcastle.

Arlene A. Ross, 89, of Union, died at the Cushing Homestead in Cushing on Jan. 5. Arlene was born July 13, 1928 in Union to Lennie S. Burns and Marion Thurston Burns. She grew up in Union and graduated from Union High School of 1947.

John Horace Brown, 94, of Riverton, N.J., passed away on Jan. 3. For 48 years, John and his wife Helen spent many of their summer weeks in their family’s cottage on Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson.
