John A. “Jack” Soper, 83, passed away unexpectedly on April 25 in Bradenton, Fla. He was the loving husband of Joan (Sylvester) Soper for 60 years.
For Our Independence from Tyranny
This coming July, we will be celebrating the 241st anniversary of our Declaration of Independence. Before that date, it might be necessary to read that document once again. I wish to recommend this in light of some recent developments, since they are related to objections initially stated in the Declaration. Keep in mind their list began with: “let Facts be submitted to a candid world.”

Suicide Survivors Group to Meet in Damariscotta
In response to a troubling increase in the number of suicides in the local community and the need to offer appropriate supports for loved ones, Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice will offer another six-week Survivors of Suicide support group for family members and close friends of suicide victims. The six-week group will meet in Damariscotta beginning Thursday, June 1, from 6-7:30 p.m.

The Feb. 23 issue of The Lincoln County News reported that the Newcastle Planning Board had approved an application for Mobius Inc. to convert the house and barn at 21 Academy Hill Road into apartments for its clients.
Diaper Drive Heads into Third Year
The Ecumenical Diaper Bank is beginning its third year of distributing diapers to low-income families. This year, from Mother’s Day, on Sunday, May 14, through Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, Midcoast-area churches will hold diaper drives. They hope to raise enough funds and diapers with this annual drive to continue to supplement family supplies of diapers for the coming year.
Dems Host Mother’s Day Eve Spaghetti Supper
Rep. Mick Devin, D-Newcastle, and former State Sen. Chris Johnson will speak at a Mother’s Day Eve spaghetti supper to be held on Saturday, May 13 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Lincoln County Democratic Committee. To honor all of our mothers, Devin and Johnson will speak about their mothers and tell us about the ways that they were influenced by them in their political lives.
