With high heat in the forecast, the Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency has compiled a list of cooling centers open throughout Lincoln County on Sunday, July 21.
Sawyer Fundraiser at ‘Grandma Camp’
The grandchildren of Pam and Gary Sawyer, of New Harbor and Massachusetts, are here for a week with their grandparents. It has been dubbed Grandma Camp. They do the things kids do in summer — beach, boating, and some volleyball. They visit with friends and get in some swimming and kayaking. They also devote several days to helping others.
Alna to Open Cooling Shelter
Due to the high temperatures forecast for the weekend, Alna’s emergency management agency director will open a cooling shelter at the fire station, 1579 Alna Road, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Welcomes Back Caterpillar Lab
In its ongoing mission to cultivate curiosity, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will host educator and nature photographer Samuel Jaffe and The Caterpillar Lab July 25-29. Jaffe, who has been raising caterpillars since childhood, has spent years educating the public about the importance of, in his words, “the little monsters living unseen around us that seem effortlessly to reveal to people the value of the natural spaces around them.”
Bigelow Laboratory to Host July 19 Open House
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences will host its annual open house at its East Boothbay campus at 60 Bigelow Drive on July 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event gives the public a rare opportunity to get hands-on with ocean science at the state-of-the-art laboratory and meet some of the world’s tiniest – and more important – sea life.

Feed the Need Program Needs Help Submitted article
Tony Gallace, of the Feed the Need program, is restoring the Otis Benner Farm & Forgery on Route 1 in Waldoboro, between the Medomak Veterinary office and Harvest Moon. Recently the windows in the old farmhouse were shot out, along with one window in his car.
Newcastle Museum to Open July 6
The Newcastle Historical Society museum will open for its summer activities on Saturday, July 6. Hours, each Saturday, during the months of July and August, will be from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. There is no entrance fee. All interested people are invited to meet with the society and see the many treasures.

South Bristol Historical Society Summer Hours
Summer open hours at two historical centers maintained by the South Bristol Historical Society have been announced. The Society’s Museum and Genealogical Research Center is now open every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., and beginning July 6, the S Road School will also be open every Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
