Melissa McCarthy stars as Lee Israel, the bestselling celebrity biographer (and cat lover) who made her living in the 1970s and 1980s profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder, and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee found herself unable to get published because she had fallen out of step with the marketplace, she turned her art form to forging famous writers’ letters, abetted by her loyal friend Jack (played by Richard E. Grant). 

One can smell Michelle McCutcheon’s art exhibit yards before entering the West Gallery at Damariscotta’s River Arts, where McCutcheon’s multimedia installation currently resides.

Harbor Theater is offering a free holiday showing of the 2003 movie “Elf” on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. Free small bags of popcorn will be handed out to anyone under 18.

Elizabeth Flanagan, a senior at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro, published her first novel in August after writing the book over the course of 2017 through work with Portland’s The Telling Room.

Barbara Applegate is exhibiting a collection of work titled “A Year on the Peninsula” at the Bristol Area Library through the holidays.

People are invited to come to the contra dance on Friday, Nov. 9 in the Damariscotta Baptist Church’s fellowship hall, at the corner of Main Street and Bristol Road.
