On Saturday, March 17 from 2-4 p.m., McGrory & Wolf Gallery in Waldoboro will hold a special celebration for St. Patrick’s Day. On display will be a handsome piece of calligraphy, 1980 vintage, that gallery owner and artist Polly McGrory designed as a gift for her aunt, Mary McGrory. Mary McGrory wrote a political commentary column for The Washington Post and won many awards, including a Pulitzer Prize, during her long career.

One of the interesting arts-related things I did – besides just taking in some of the beautiful architecture, such as Wahnfried Haus in Bayreuth, the preserved former home of the late German composer Richard Wagner – was check out Seltmann Weiden, the world-famous manufacturer of fine porcelain in the small city of Weiden in der Oberpfalz, where my son and his family live.

PWA Gallery Showcases Donated Art
Members of the public are encouraged to visit the Pemaquid Watershed Association office art gallery, at 584 Main St. in Damariscotta, to view some beautiful pieces of art from the PWA collection. These pieces were generously donated to the organization over the past few years. The collection includes paintings, photographs, prints, and drawings, most of which are original works of art that range in size and scope.

“Call Me by Your Name,” rated R and running 130 minutes, will play at Harbor Theater in Boothbay Harbor on Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. and on Friday, March 9 at 2 p.m. It was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Timothee Chalamet), and Best Adapted Screenplay.

LA Grad Wins Georgia Poetry Prize
The University of Georgia Press is pleased to announce Rosa Lane as winner of the 2017 Georgia Poetry Prize. In partnership with the Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, and the University of Georgia, the University of Georgia Press established the Georgia Poetry Prize in 2015 as a national competition that celebrates excellence in poetry.

Art of the square: “I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since we first met at my art display at the Bristol Area Library,” Walpole artist Susan Bartlett Rice told me in a recent email. Indeed, a year has gone by since Rice’s last Bristol exhibit, and now she has a new exhibit at the same library, which runs through the end of February.

Andrew Wyeth, Part Two, at Lincoln Home
Jerry Wiles, a local historian, will share the final chapter of Andrew Wyeth’s life from 1948 to his death in 2009 on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at The Lincoln Home in Newcastle. Wyeth is well-remembered for his vast collection of paintings, including “Christina’s World” and “Winter 1946.” The public is invited to join in. The event is free.
