Hammond Lumber Co. Names Mike Hammond President/CEO

Maine-based Hammond Lumber Co. announced Monday, March 6 a transition in leadership with the appointment of Mike Hammond as president and CEO. The vice president for the past 20 years, Mike is following a natural succession, as did his father, Don Hammond, the president since 1997, who will become vice president.

Alna Store Changes Hands, Role as Community Center to Remain

The grills sizzled and the coffee brewed for regulars at The Alna Store for the last time under Amy and Mike Preston’s ownership Monday, Feb. 27. In a sale that has been in development for over a year, the Prestons officially transferred ownership of the store to Ken and Jane Solorzano, of Alna, the next day.

Local Chamber Welcomes New Executive Director

The Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce has hired a new executive director, Stephanie Gallagher. Her official start date was Monday, Feb. 27. Gallagher lives in Nobleboro with her husband Jack and their two children, 13-year-old Teagan and 12-year-old Aidan.

Damariscotta Bankshares Inc. Declares Annual Cash Dividend

Scott D. Conant, president and chief executive officer of Damariscotta Bankshares Inc., the parent company of Damariscotta Bank & Trust Co., announced that the company has declared an annual cash dividend of $0.40 per share on the company’s common stock. The cash dividend will be payable to all shareholders of record as of March 20 and will be paid on April 3.

The Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce announced on Friday, Feb. 10 that it is accepting nominations for its annual Chamber of Commerce awards, which will be presented at the organization’s annual meeting on Thursday, May 18 at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.

New Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop Is Expansive, Inviting

Upon entering the brand-new location of Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop at 17 Backstreet Landing in Damariscotta, one immediately feels welcomed. The spacious, warmly carpeted interior features row upon row of books, with ample space between rows so as to not seem crowded. Tucked into corners of the various rooms of the new book shop are pairs of chairs for cozy sitting and conversation, including two inviting chairs and a table in front of the shop’s working fireplace, and tiny, kid-sized chairs in the roomy children’s section. In what used to be the kitchen of the former restaurant, chairs encircle a large table in what has been cleverly designated as the book shop’s cookbook section.
