Arson Suspected In Waldoboro House Fire
Investigators are examining causes for the blaze that overtook a house on Brooks Lane in Waldoboro in the early morning hours of Feb. 19. Ken Grimes of the State Fire Marshall’s Office said the fire was intentionally set.
Detective Lance Mitchell of the Waldoboro Police Dept. said the home, owned by Wells Fargo Bank was unoccupied when firefighters and other emergency personnel made it to the fiery scene shortly after the 911 emergency call at 1:50 a.m.

Wiscasset Airport Awarded Grant For Utility Annex
Wiscasset Municipal Airport has been awarded a $123,693 federal transportation fund grant for a snow removal equipment building.
At its Feb. 3 meeting Wiscasset’s board of selectmen gave the green light to the municipal airport manager to apply for the grant. At the same meeting, the board opened sealed bids for construction of the facility.

Edgecomb Firehouse In Dire Straits
Edgecomb Fire Chief Roy Potter told Selectmen Monday night that a structural engineer recently inspected the fire station and the news isn’t good.
Potter says the roof has failed and the engineer is expected to return next week to take measurements on the I-beams of the building to see if those in its main part may be trussed up to extend its use, since the station is still needed to house the town’s fire trucks.

Maine Democratic Party Fined For Third Ethics Violation In Four Months
The Maine Democratic Party has been fined $424 by the state’s ethics commission for late reporting of spending on behalf of a candidate, marking the third time since September that the party has been penalized.

The Maine Warden Service reports a Westport Island man was able to use his cell phone to call for help after falling through thin ice while riding a snowmobile on Feb. 24.

Sheriff Brackett Optimistic About More Jail Funding
News of the state Board of Corrections (BOC) seeking an additional $18 million for the Governor’s biennial budget gives Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett some optimism about jail funds.
“If the unified system is to survive, there needs to be funds set aside for its continuation,” he told the Multi-county Jail Authority meeting at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset Feb. 11.

Alna Fire Department Offers Firehouse Plan
Alna Fire Dept. is returning to voters March 21 with a $200,000 firehouse addition plan after defeat of last year’s $1 million town center proposal.
Fire Chief Mike Trask presented the potential $375,000 plan to the Board of Selectmen Feb. 4 calling for a 50 by 60 foot addition added onto the north side of the present structure.
