The end of summer is approaching, but there will be two more beach explorations offered at Beachcombers’ Rest Nature Center at Pemaquid Beach Park. These will be “Fairy Houses” and “Monarchs at the Beach.” There will be another Touch Tank Tuesday at Beachcombers’ Rest Nature Center as well, on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

The people involved with the DIY Network “Maine Cabin Masters” will highlight the daily demonstrations to be held at the Union Fair Aug. 18-25.

On Saturday, Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m., the Pemaquid Watershed Association Paddlers will be kayaking in the waters of Muscle Ridge off Spruce Head. This group of islands is one of the most beautiful kayak destinations in Midcoast Maine. The paddle duration is approximately 2 1/2 hours and is appropriate for advanced intermediate paddlers.

Beachcombers’ Rest Nature Center at Pemaquid Beach continues an exciting series of beach explorations in August. On Friday, Aug. 3, from 1-3 p.m., one can join this amazing beach exploration to find out why there is no such bird as a seagull.

Barton Seaver, the founder and chief education officer of the Coastal Culinary Academy in Portland will be the guest presenter at Skidompha Library’s Chats with Champions program on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. Please allow time for parking.

A not-to-be-missed opportunity for those fascinated by the sinking of the steamship Titanic in 1912 will be when author Malcolm “Mac” Smith will share the research behind his book, “Mainers on the Titanic.” The event will take place on Thursday, July 26 from 5-6:30 p.m. in Skidompha Library’s first-floor Porter Meeting Hall.

Local community-based education network Dirigo Learning announces a free “literrarium” make-and-take workshop at the Whitefield Library. To be held on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 10:30 a.m., the workshop is open to all ages, and offers participants the opportunity to learn about the science of terrariums and the art of recreating favorite moments from stories.
